My advice cc, thank your lucky stars you are critical care boarded and have a nice academic gig at the VA-spa.
Just like the good ole days of California's managed-cap-care, these poor anesthesia docs get to fight with the surgeons about how much anesthesia is worth. Since it is a surgeon owned shop, guess what? You ain't worth much. Now if you want to be the guy to manage the ever-larger-growing cadre of "low-cost anesthesia providers" so as to keep profits high for the surgeon and administrative owners; then you can keep an anesthesia salary, but you're not going to be administering anesthesia.
Good-bye to the simple doc that wants to do their own cases. Wish I believed the future to be different. It's a mostly-fun, and very satisfying work we do managing patients in the OR.
We'll see if the surgeons start training "providers" to do their work.
