For the past 6 years I have been driving school bus for a small town. Also for 2 and half of those years I work at a state prison as a correction officer. Does either one of these two jobs help me at all. Just curious if with me working with predominate low income families on the bus And working with the prison population

I mean you can explain your experience in your personal statement and how it helped you. You’ll still need to show good academics, good MCAT score, and healthcare experience (shadowing + volunteering.

Help you in what regard?

If you are asking if you should include these experiences on your application, absolutely! Any work experience is important and having worked at two long term jobs shows commitment and maturity. I bet working with children and prisoners taught you leadership, good communication skills, and how to deescalate conflicts. Those are all skills you will need when working with patients, so highlight the fact that you have them.

If you are asking if those jobs will score you points towards service to the under-served - I'm not sure how paid positions will be viewed in that regard. But by all means, describe any insights or new perspectives you gained from working with people from different backgrounds, especially if those experiences motivated you to become a physician or to work with a specific population.

Yes.

Admins are considered by many faculty and students to possess the interpersonal skills of felons, and medical students feel like they are continually being sent to the back of the bus by said felons so you should be golden with your experience
I laughed so hard when I read this

Thank you for your response goro. The stories I can tell of some of the operating rooms I been in with a couple different prisoners.
