Is there much difference in how busy/crazy the E.D. is on a Friday versus a Saturday or is the entire weekend the same? Does traffic change based on geography or is it everywhere the same? I'm curious if people can let us know what their expericence is at their location. Thanks.

Weekend days are usually pretty chill, then at about 6-7pm, penetrating trauma begins and stays steady until about 3 or 4 am (it lightens up over the winter months). Friday days are pretty steady and busy. Friday and Saturday nights are about the same for trauma, Sundays not so bad...

I only work Friday and Saturday overnights and in general I think our Saturdays are somewhat busier than Fridays. I've never looked at the averages to see if thats true, maybe I'm just more tired on Saturday.

Wednesday seems to be the busiest day (at least while working the ambulance).

Thurs through Sun are busy for us what with the tourists and all. Weekend days are busy with seekers and gomer dumps. The seekers know that they have a better chance of getting in and out on weekends. The gomers happen because the families vist the nursing homes on the weekends. You know the nursing homes were people go when they are old and sick. When the family gets there they exclaim "Holy s--t! My loved one is old and sick. To the ER!" Fortunatley we can just put them in the rejuvenator and make them 50 again and off they go.

Monday tends to be our worst day by far. Why ruin your weekend when you can just go in on Monday?

LOL  thats great! The running joke here in my little area is just install human sized vacuum tubes (like the kind at the bank, just bigger) connecting all the SNF's and ED's in the area. Just roll'em in and send them off 😛 . Probably make more work for you guys, and it's pretty darn insentitive, but it'd sure cut down on my transports 😉 .

I agree above with Monday. Monday is when someone finally notices all the NH gomers who have been neglected all weekend by the on-call physician. These old mother****ers just pile off the ambulance; all requiring intubation, resuscitation and a DNR order. Unfortunately in that order. (I am of the opinion that admission to a NH should be considered the same as hospice...automatic DNR...but that's a subject for another thread).

In my experience Saturday nights are busier. I think it has to do with the fact that homey and his boyz have been sippin fourties all day and by evening they are ready to shoot some mutha ****a. (sorry...I've been working on the local slang).

Saturday nights during an LSU home game can get unreal. Absolutely out of control. Especially when Southern and LSU have home games. Southern tail gates are associated more with penetrating trauma. LSU with drunks, lacs, head injuries, and MVAs.

Down here in Tampa, winter months are far busier than summer months. Mondays and Thursdays are our busiest days... Fridays usually worse than Saturday nights. Fridays is the "get drunk and crazy night" whereas Saturday is the "stay home with the baby's momma night."

Sunday mornings are usually the quietest times.

Sunday evenings in Pedi ED is the busiest for them. That's when all the mom's get their babies back from their ex-boyfriends house and accuse the ex boyfriend of molesting them.

True, but remember, when you're unemployed, every day is a weekend. 😉

Anybody have any theories on why Thursdays might be so busy? We've seen a few reasons why Mondays might be the busiest (if I'm not mistaken those who list Mondays happen to be in "retirement cities" -- an interesting geographic link), but I am really surprised that several people have listed Thursdays as their busiest days. Any ideas?

Same reason why Mondays are busiest. People don't want to wreck their weekend for something minor. Or they tell their boss that I don't feel well, blah blah blah, get Dr's note from the ER and voila instant long weekend.

And same for me. Wednesdays are usually busy (and St. Patricks day!)

More college students on Friday, more real drunks on Saturday. Saturday worse overall I'd say. Anyone else get to enjoy the pleasures of Rush Weekend? There were 15 18-20 year olds drunk in our hallways when I came in Saturday at 6 am.
