I had a question about undergrad majors targeting medicine. I have heard that it is frowned upon by adcoms of medical schools to take a business major along with the premed courses because it is seen to have less rigor (for example taking an economics major with the required premed courses). The reason I would prefer to take a business major is: I want to keep the prospect open for becoming a medical administrator eventually, for example a CEO of a hospital with an MD degree, etc.

I would appreciate if anyone could share their opinions and insight in this regard.

Do well in the prerequisite courses, get a solid MCAT score, and your major won't matter a hill of beans.

Your major does not matter as long as you do well... if you are concerned about demonstrating rigor to the adcom, take a few upper division bio classes like physio or genetics -- but even if you don't take those, as long as you do well, get a good mcat, and put together a solid app, you should be fine

You heard wrong. We only care that you do well.

Also you don't usually have to be in the B school to be an econ major. You can be in the normal arts&sciences general student body and study econ as your major

I was a finance major. 100% not an issue. I thankfully had done well all along and thus when it came time to take my prereqs and MCAT, I didn't also have to also combat a mediocre GPA. At the end of the day, it'll never be easier than when you're a college student. Your only actual job is to study and get good grades. It truly only gets more difficult from there. Cheers.

The insights gained from having a business or econ major will make you look diverse in the sea of science majors applying.
