C&A 3rd or 4th year?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone chosen to make it 6 years total, and if so, why and how did it work out?

At my program, plenty of my classmates short-tracked. As far as I could tell the only practical impact it had on their education was that they had fewer long-term psychotherapy cases. (i.e., if you picked up cases during your PGY2 or PGY3 years, in contrast to your non-shorttrack classmates you did not have the time in your schedule to continue working with them as a PGY4)

I stayed at the same place and I kept my long-term adult patients. I was just seeing them at 6 or 7 in the evening.

I honestly don't believe there is any value in not fast tracking, at all. People have reasons, but they always sound like really bad reasons to me. If you want to spend 6 years, fast track and do another fellowship in something else. Otherwise, that adult 4th year is just very low yield compared to other ways you could be spending your time.
