Hi guys,

I am interested in C & A and at the same time interested in C & L fellowship too. Is it something that is practical to do? any inputs would be helpful.

This is clearly an evolving field, and nobody really knows right now what the "child C&L" doc is going to look like in ten years. It might be somebody trained in just c&a, it might be somebody w/ both fellowships. Or maybe MGH will start the first "C&A&L" fellowship.

It's also not clear that this field will ever be large enough to meet the seemingly increasing interest in it.

Most Child CL docs are C&A fellowship only, but I do know of a few who formally trained in both. With the approval of CL as a ACGME/ABPN governed fellowship-required subspecialty, it does remain unclear how this will evolve going forward. Combined fellowships are unlikely since you can't meet the requirements for CL certification in a peds-only environment.

Look at Triple Board programs (adult psych, c&a psych, pediatrics) -- it was originally designed to develop consult-liason child and adolescent psychiatrists.

huge interest of mine. I've been looking at places where c&l dept is stronger and has more solid involvement with residents. Also been looking at programs with a formalized child c&l service.

I would look to make sure that c&l at wherever you planned on doing general was run by fellowship-trained psychiatrists.

I'd say don't fasttrack and use 4th year to get more child and adult c&l time. Or fasttrack and do both fellowships.

*shrug*
