Hi everyone, looking for thoughts on my current situation. I'm a career changer and have been taking a few classes informally (big mistake). I received three Bs and an A last semester. This semester, I got stuck in a weird place with registering and ended up taking 5-credit Calculus I online (even bigger mistake). It's looking like I will probably receive a C in the class, unless I get a 100 on the final. Because it's 5 credits, my GPA will take a serious hit. This is especially frustrating because I know I could have gotten an A.

I was accepted to a formal postbac program (UVM), which I will start this summer. I know that this will be a better route for me and I know I can earn all As. I plan to take Calc II to prove my abilities in Calculus. Will a mediocre first year of postbac look terrible to admissions committees? (my undergrad GPA is a 3.5 in humanities degree). Thanks for your input

#1 - A C in Calc. will not hurt you as long as you do well in your science prereqs.

#2 - There is no logical reason to take Calc 2. It is not required for any medical schools and will only take time away from studying for the classes that matter: science prereqs. Calc. 2 will be a waste of time and money.

If you didn't do well in Calc I, Calc II is going to be a challenge. You're better off taking Stats or something that is equally useful but a bit easier. A C is good enough, and won't kill you.

Everyone heads into their postbac program thinking they will get all As. Easier said than done.

Jdoc and robflanker, what do you suggest for how this pertains to my situation with Calculus? Not to take Calc II, as the others said?

hell no avoid calc 2. it's much harder than calc 1 and calc 3. don't worry about proving your abilities in calculus. look at the big picture and do well in your biomedical science classes e.g. biology.
