Lack of focus and lack of understanding the material resulted in a C+ in Chem 101 in my freshman fall semester. B+ in Bio 101 at same time.

Should I proceed to Chem 102 in this upcoming Spring semester, or push Chem 102 to either my sophomore of junior year when I would hopefully be better prepared for the class? Or should I stick with it since Chem 101 is still fresh in my mind?

Thanks.

this is my recommendation to everybody:

Regardless of grade, finish all pre-req's (general bio, chem, orgo, and physics) by end of junior year. This means dont repeat anything till then. And then in the summer between junior and senior year, if you got lower than a C in any of these prereq's retake them that summer. That way the retake grade will also show up on your application before applying to med school. And if you do well in the retake, you can really make a solid argument that you were just having too much fun your first semester freshman year, and you have matured in your attitude towards academics.

In your case, you got a C+ so you dont have to retake it (dont get me wrong; a C+ is bad, but can be slightly covered up if you do well in everything else). But if you still wish to retake this course, take it between the summer of your junior and senior year.

But for now go on to Chem II, and study hard in that. Forget the past for now.

Question you really have to ask yourself is: what would you take in place of chem 102? If you really think you can do better in replacement course to help you get into the right track, then postpone. Otherwise, just take the class and do your best.

Bad advice. Almost all universities and community colleges will not release official grades until the end of the summer semester in August. In other words, it does not matter if you retook one of your classes during summer session 1 and completed the class at the end of June. The grade still won't make it into the transcript until August when the summer semester is officially over. Waiting until August to get these grades will delay the AMCAS submission, the wait time to verify will be longest (4 weeks), and then secondaries might not come until September when its getting late in the game. If you plan to retake, do it during the year before applying.

I got a C+ in my first Gen Chem class and am taking the second one now (waited until my sophomore year) and am doing really, really well.

Just do it and study ten times harder. If you want to be a doctor, you're gonna have to work for it. I had to learn that the hard way my first quarter of college and am making up for it now.

Good luck! 👍
