I'm currently in my second semester of my freshman year, receiving a 4.0 in my first semester. This semester has been more of a challenge. I will most likely receive a C in Gen Chem 1. There are a few reasons for this, one being the professor is very very hard to understand and another being I hadn't really developed good study habits until it was too late. I received an A in the lab, A in Biology lab, and should get a very high B or even an A in Biology 1. I'm kinda freaking out thinking I may have ruined my chances all because of this one stupid class. Is this ground able to be made up, as these are my first college science classes? Please tell me I'm worrying too much lol.

If you are taking GChem-1 and Bio-1 in the spring, what did you take in the fall? Any science courses with labs??

No. Core classes to graduate. I didn't know what I wanted to do until the semester had started

Don't sweat it. Just do better next semester.

I totally recommend Chad's Videos and Freelance Teacher. They will teach you gen chem, orgo, or physics better than any textbook/professor.

If you think one C will hold you back, then you need to just sit back and relax. I have 5 C's in total and had the amazing opportunity to interview at 5 schools with 3 acceptances. ADCOMs look well past your scores once you obtain an interview. Now, there may be only one problem I can think of and that is the fact that these are pretty easy classes comparatively speaking because your junior and senior years will be a lot more difficult than these classes are now. However, I earned a B in Bio 1 as well, so it's not the end of the world. Watch out and prepare for Chem 2...that always catches people by surprise, but then again I was always an O-Chem kind of guy so it was a bit tedious to calculate all of those reactions. Best of luck, go to Khan-Academy, and best of wishes 🙂

Got a C in gen chem 1. Got an A in gen chem 2. Going to medical school in July. Don't stress out about it. Try to figure out what went wrong and fix it so that next semester you don't make the same mistake. For me, I was just not studying enough. It was that simple and a relatively easy fix.

I'd blame your study habit more than the furriner. Academia is full of incomprehensible people, many of whom don't have an accent. Focus on your textbook - most gen chem textbooks are well written - and if you don't understand something, look at another textbook in your library.

It will only ruin your chances if it continues. Study, study, study... get a tutor, attend pretest reviews, do every homework problem possible, etc. I had a prof that immigrated from Greece and spoke mostly Greek and it sucked but you run into such in life. Medicine is about overcoming obstacles.
