Here is my situation. I am really lost and don't know what to do, I would appreciate any advice that you guys give me because I know some of you have been in the same situation that I am in.

I took orgo 1 the first time dropped it with a W and took it again with a B in the course. In orgo 2 I made a C. I really dread the decision of retaking it because I struggled a lot and took a lot of time and effort into retaking this course.

I made a 93% on the pcat chem portion and the second time I took it I made a 86% in the chem portion. I know my chemistry and due to my good pcat score in the chemistry section I do not want to retake this course. I hope my chem score in the pcat makes up for the C in organic.

I also am planning to well in upper lever courses next semester and bump up my gpa. Currently it is sitting at a 3.1 but dropped to 3.0 due to organic.

Am I making the right decision of not retaking it due to my good pcat score in chem? Well the pcat score in the chem section makeup for that C?

Thank you

I'm sure other members will chime in. If you feel you'll do better in other upper lvl science courses, then move on. However, you want to research the Pharm schools you will be applying to determine the lowest grade accepted for a pre-req course. From what I have seen, C+ is the lowest for some schools, but not all I believe. Plus, if you PCAT overall score is competitive I would not worry too much. Hope this helps. 👍

Personally, I would retake it...but that's just me. Anything lower than a B in a prereq course is a weakness. Aim to raise your GPA a few notches up to at least 3.2-3.3.

My advice is take it during the summer. I was in the same boat. I took orgo 1 last fall, barely passed with a D. Ended up taking both orgo 1, 2, and lab during the summer. I got a B in both orgo 1 and 2 that summer. Besides having a lot of time to study, orgo's just more manageable because you don't have 3-4 other classes distracting you. Orgo's a tough class and requires a lot of attention to do well in. You don't need a C (especially when orgo is looked at pretty significantly by pharm schools) blemishing your transcript when you can easily get a B just by sacrificing a month and a half of your summer.

I am planning on retaking my pcat in the summer. I want to focus on that because my only good score is in the chem section on the pcat. I don't know if I will be able to pull out time to study for it, but I'll think about it.

I have a 3.2 overall gpa but I got Cs in Chem I,II, Orgo I,II and Biochem... 75 on my PCAT and I have two interviews coming up. Im getting my bachelors in the spring.

if I dont get in this time around, should I retake those classes or should I start on a masters program (like an MHA or an MBA)? What would improve my chances of getting in?

All chem courses Cs and you got an interview. Very nice. I'm assuming your other stats (LOR, ECs, pharm experience) balances you out. What schools granted you interviews? And, good luck with your interviews. 👍

yea thanks I was really worried...Ive volunteered at a hospital every week for about a year and a half, and I am also a certified pharm tech and have been working for about a year. I did get interviews at below average schools (palm beach atlantic and Nova in Florida) but those were my top choices which were close to home so I can't complain.

If your schools of choice accept a "C" for pre-requisite courses, I wouldn't re-take it. Although you have shown that you can re-take a course and perform much better, it's probably not worth it in the long run especially if you have a lot of upper-div classes to go.

That is, unless you really have time in your schedule to re-take it. I wouldn't do it, but again I don't know what your schedule is like.

Hey guys, thanks for all your inputs. I am going to go with taking a upper division classes and go ahead and take biochemistry to prove that I can handle a challenging class. This is weird but after making that C in organic it made me more committed and wanting to prove to the admission committee look I can take an upper level class and make an A.

My goal: Make straight A's next semester and retake the pcat do well on chem portion again (retaking due to english score being low)

Thanks again I think all your inputs helped me turn this negative situation into a positive and now all I have to do is focus on my classes and ace them!
