I will be applying for optometry school this coming cycle. On my transcript I have 2 C-'s (one quarter of general biology and one quarter of physics). Would these 2 C- grades keep me from getting admitted to optometry schools, since they require a grade of a C or better in prerequisites? At my university it is against school policy to retake any class in which a grade of a C- or better has been earned. Currently I am unable to take these 2 classes elsewhere because I have a full course load at my current university. What other options would I have in order to meet these prereqs?

This happened to me and I had to retake it at a community college. It's not that hard to take a CC class with ur regular university classes. As far as not retaking it, SCCO doesn't look at + or - so you'd be okay there...except that they do want you to have an overall high GPA...

Thank you for the fast reply. The only problem with taking the course at a community college is the nearest CC is 30 miles away and does not work with my schedule. Would it be wise to take the those 2 classes after I graduate( June 2013) and apply in December of 2013?

They have 6 week summer classes at some CCs if that works...I would not wait till Dec to apply...

What is your GPA maybe your ok, but your being to hard on yourself.

No, most schools clearly state a "C" or higher and a "C-" will not cut it. It's not about the GPA- they literally will not let you enroll if you don't have at least a "C" in all your pre-reqs.

Other than SCCO which optometry schools would even consider a C- passing for prereqs?
