Hi all,

I'm a current surgery prelim and I'm going to be applying for 2014 CA-1 slots this cycle. Unfortunately, I don't see them listed in ERAS, even for some programs that I know have them. Does anyone know how to go about finding them? I know they were listed as "R0" spots in the NRMP last year but it's not yet open for this cycle.

Thanks!

Anyone? E-mailing programs directly hasn't been too helpful...

I don't think you're going to find too much help here. If either contacting programs or waiting until the lists comes out on NRMP aren't feasible I don't think PDs are going to be more likely to contact you on a forum and resident's aren't going to shout out 'Hey, my program can't fill!' Maybe expand your list of programs you contact, if they have CA-1 spots that means they either didn't match or someone dropped out or some programs hold spots as R0 now that they can't do it outside of the match but I've heard that's decreasing

Isn't what you're looking for listed as "Advanced" spots in ERAS?

Matching into an advanced spot in 2013 means you wouldn't start until 2015. The OP is correct that there are a small amount of R0 spots that you can match into and start CA1 that same year.
