How hard is it to find a job as a mfti while waiting for the intern number to be assigned by the BBS? I've heard it takes an average of four months to get a number. I really, really do not want to wait four months to start making money as a mfti. I'm in California. I know I'm assuming a lot by thinking I'm going to find a paid internship period but I was just wondering what other people's experiences are with agencies. I know it's not possible to work in private practice without the #, but will agencies hire you without one?

Thanks!

next to impossible, without the bbs # you cant bill medical or insurance for repayment hence you cannot produce revenue for the agency, so you are pretty much out of luck till u get the #

Thanks for the response. That's depressing 🙁. I know a few people though who work now as MFT trainees at agencies that seem to make money off of the clients that they see - or at least I assume they do, because they have so many trainees at these agencies and otherwise they'd be losing money. And these are companies with Medi-cal and stuff, so does that give me a chance of finding something without the intern number since they don't have anything right now?

There Is a way you can work without the number for a bit, you just bill as a care coordinator, this might work? i would suggest you apply to agencies and tell them you already applied to bbs and are just waiting for the number... if they really like you it shouldnt be a problem.... just apply everywhere! good luck 🙂 and also check bbs website and it says where along bbs is with the applications, which days they are processing
