Any help would be much appreciated! I am a CA ORM applicant born outside of the US. I'm a first-gen immigrant and a member of the LGBTQ community.
I've already narrowed down by tuition (<65k/yr) and OOS-friendliness. I made this OOS-friendliness spreadsheet using AAMC data to figure out where to apply as OOS.

I am also applying to 3 year primary care track programs as I am sure I would like to practice family or internal medicine. I am hoping to work with immigrants, LGBTQ patients, and other disadvantaged populations at a nonprofit clinic. I believe I have very strong LORs from the doctor I worked with and two professors from college.

Stats:
  • 3.65 CGPA, 3.55 sGPA (Upward trend; 4.0/4.0 in last year but <3.0 Sophomore year)
  • 515 MCAT, balanced
Clinical Experience:
  • 2,000 paid hours as a Medical Assistant at a primary care group (current, gap year job)
  • 2,500 paid hours as a Medical Assistant at a nonprofit FQHC clinic (1.5 yrs)
  • 500 volunteer hours as a MA at the same clinic (6 mo.)
  • ~100 volunteer hours as an EMT with public health dept (over 3 years)
Non-Clinical:
  • ~150 hours serving food to the homeless (gap year)
  • ~100 hours with an LGBTQ organization (gap year)
  • ~50 hours volunteering at a natural history museum (gap year)
  • ~200 hours on leadership for a club that performed at senior centers
  • Staff writer for 1 year, school newspaper (~30 articles written)
  • Editorial board 2nd year, school newspaper (~300 hours of involvement)
  • ~400 hours working as a receptionist (summer job)
  • ~150 hours working at a call center
Shadowing: ~100 hours shadowing a surgeon and a family practice doc

Research experience: 150 hours as lab assistant in a cell lab. If I do any research in the future I would like to focus on population health, healthcare disparities, and policy instead of working in a wet lab.

Hobbies: Bookworm (~1,000 books read and logged), listening to music & going to concerts - recent hobby

I really, really don't want to reapply since I have thought about this for years and I am certain I want to be a physician. So far I have 10 CA schools (all except UCSF) and 46 OOS schools.
I have heard from friends who applied last cycle that as a CA applicant we should be applying to ~40 schools. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! I graduated 2 years ago and I'm going into my 3rd gap year so I don't know anyone else who is applying.
I feel like applying to some schools like UCSF, is just a waste of my money. However WARS says to apply to all of your state schools?

As an OOS you need to be in the upper echelon of those out of state public schools AND have significant ties to that state.

Remove Wisconsin, Michigan, Louisville, Iowa, and Ohion State. Tulane has their cycle end rather early, so if you dont have your secondary submitted within the next couple weeks (doubtful) then scratch them too

Does Tulane say that in their invitation, like the app cycle closes at this time?

Also I didn’t even get an invite yet from Tulane and I submitted early (and have a LizzyM of 74), so I doubt they completely close off as early as you mentioned.

I remember in September they were done extending interview offers, and I only finally got put under review in November last year. I submitted the 2ndary in August

That’s not really fair... I didn’t even get an email yet from them

Thanks so much - didn't know that. I have been checking "OOS - Accepted" on MSAR for stats.
I submitted my primary on 6/15 and I'm just waiting now. I took CASPer 6/2 and my LORs are all in so I'm just prewriting secondaries.

EDIT: Yikes yes, you're right - Michigan has high stats for OOS, removed!
