  1. Resident [Any Field]
Hey guys, does anyone have any info on either of these two residencies? I've never been in a non-academic or non-university affiliated system, is there a big difference in terms of atmosphere, resources, didactics? Is it harder to get fellowships coming from a community residency vs an academic residency?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I did a month of externship at San Mateo County when I was a fourth year. As far as I can tell, all the graduates of this program get to do exactly what they want to do. They had one guy who went to Columbia to do a fellowship in community psychiatry. The folks who want to do child fellowships at Stanford have all matched there in the past few years. Other graduates choose to start private practice, work for the county...etc. It is not the place to go if you want an academic career though. The training, as far as I can tell, is superb. The RD is a psychopharmacologist, so they get drilled on cytochrome p450 stuff quite a bit. They also get lecturers from Stanford and UCSF. They get a good breadth and depth- ranging from the underserved to students at Stanford/UC Berkeley. I would encourage you to do a month there if you are interested.
