Calc II hasn't been to bad all semester then all of a sudden it seems really hard. I think we got alittle behind sometime during the semester and now the professor is trying to catch up. We are flying through the material, I feel overwhelmed. I just needed to say that.

I'm in Calc II right now too, only in the second week and I'm dying.

But then again, I took Calc I 2 years ago

I knew I would kick myself for putting the second term off

I'm right there with you.

I've been doing pretty good, but my professor said that no one ever does that great on this upcoming test. It's funny...out of all the math courses, I've heard that Cal II is the hardest.

I assume you're talking about the transition into vector calc and getting used to 3-space stuff?

God, this post just made me a lot more worried.

I am by no means confident in my mathematic ability. My decision to take Calculus II is more than just to complete my major, but to get over my math phobia.

I am told it is ridiculously hard. I'm taking it in the summer. God help me.

calculus...biggest waste of time. i dont remember one thing.

calc I was hard enough (and time consuming enough) for me

I'm never going back!

good luck! :luck:

Right there with you guys, taking Calc II here. Yeah Maxprime, we already covered three dimensional space...I'm about sick of partial derivatives, lagrange multipliers, and anything to do with conic sections or any combination of the three.

I'll be so glad to finish this crap in four weeks.

Do not take Calc II in the summer if you value your GPA. You have been warned.

I appreciate your advice, and trust me I do value my GPA.

But I think it's better than taking it with Physics, Biochem, and another class next year. Or with Pchem, and a bunch of other classes after that. In the summer, I can focus. It's one class.

I took Calculus I in my freshman year, first semester. (first time taking it) I withdrew. I took it the summer after, aced it.

Let's hope for the best, eh?

Where I took Calc, Calc II ended with Sequences and Series if I remember correctly. No multivariable. I thought that was pretty standard. Calc I = Derivatives, Integrals + some other stuff, Calc II = sequences and series Calc III = multivariable and beyond.

Calc 2 was my worst grade by far, but it's not why you'd think. I got an A in Calc I and was doing peachy in Calc 2 until my calculator died in the middle of the final exam. The final was worth 40% and the portion of the exam I hadn't completed was unrealistic without it, unlike the first half. I went from an A- or A in the morning to a B- after the exam. No make up or considerations were allowed for the calculator crashing.

It's not too bad.

That REALLY sucks. I'd be furious.

And your prof wouldn't give you a calculator or cut you some slack? What a jerk.

He said he couldn't make exceptions or anyone having a bad day might have a calculator "malfunction." I'm back to a 3.71 now, but it did really hurt since it was a 5 credit class. As my final math course I wasn't too fond of the idea of taking it over, coupled with the fact that I could only raise it to an averaged B+ for med school purposes by acing it.

Our Calc II is just single variable integration stuff...

AND WE DO NOT GET CALCULATORS ON TESTS....IN ANY MATH CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN

Calc 2 was really difficult, and honestly I hardly remember any of it.

I pretty much had to ace the final in order to make the grade that i did, thank god for luck

About half the exam, at least what little of it I remember had no use for a calculator. The unfortunate part for me was the first half was the basic integration that had no benefit from a calculator.

Wow. Do any of you people having trouble in calculus actually study, or do you just skim through the book and screw off?

You really shouldn't be having problems if you spend enough time studying.

That would seriously piss me the hell off if your teacher didn't let you use a loaner calc or go get batteries and come back. Wtf is wrong with that person.

Well....you have a point, taking calc alongside the classes you mentioned would probably suck worse. Good luck to you.

I've noticed a very large amount of your comments are extremely ignorant....this one is no exception. Are you suggesting that if someone's doing poorly in a class then it must be because of them, and it could never be the material or more importantly the teacher who's contributing to the problem? If so, you should be adding disclaimers to your posts that they're idiotic so it saves us the trouble of trying to decide whether or not to pay attention to you.

I didn't have any problems with calc at all, but I'm kind of a math guy. Calc 3 sucked terribly, but I actually thought calc 2 was kind of fun and interesting.

I thought the exact opposite. Calc 2 was horrible for me...everything seemed backwards. But calc 3 was just like calc 1 with more dimensions, much easier.

Although I must admit I couldn't do any calc problem right now to save my life. Just not anything you use in everyday life unless you're actually teaching the stuff. I'm sure there are other uses but none that are practical to most people.

Calc 2 was the hardest class I've taken so far besides Organic Chemistry. I feel your pain the only thing good was after surviving it every thing else seemed so easy! Good Luck👍

I have what I like to call a "math brain." In high school I took the highest level math course track and breezed through it all without even studying. I put in considerably more effort into college calculus.

I barely pulled a B. Go figure.

I've got to say I wish all my classes were as easy as calculus was for me. I shoulda been a math major. 🙁

I've definitely noticed that for some people low level calculus is excedingly easy and for others it is their most difficult class (as also demonstrated by this thread).

Have you ever taken real analysis? You might change you mind after that class.

No I haven't taken real analysis and yes, I realize there are things worse than calculus.

I thought about adding a math major to my biochem & molecular bio but after the first semester of real analysis I decided to just go for the minor...

I actually ended up with a B+ in the class (better than my calc2 grade) but it was pure torture and seriously made me question if I was really the math person I thought I was.

same here.

and calc II for me has not been very hard at all (awesome professor-probably the best in the math department in terms of clarity and fairness of tests). but yea some of the stuff in calc II is pretty complicated and would have little use in everyday life, imo, so there is little to no chance i will remember most of this stuff.

Man, I took Calc I and Calc II nearly four years apart. I took Calc I my first semester freshman year and then Calc II in the summer after my senior year.

It was kinda funny, I thought the beginning was rough because I didn't remember a single thing from Calc I, and consequently, tanked the first test. I was like "I got this wrong because of the 'Product Rule?' You never taught us that ****. You're just making **** up!" But after spending a few weeks in office hours, I improved steadily in the new material whereas everyone else started tanking. By some miracle of God I ended up with an A- in that class...I took it during summer session too. I'm not sure if I would recommend summer Calc II, we flew through the material and it was quite the source of stress in the end.

I don't think you need Calc II for med school. If any, probably they would only ask Calc I. If you're struggling in Calc II and you care about your GPA, you might want to opt out. No calculus in MCAT or med school.

Calculus is about computation strategies... you just need to practice a lot. It is not hard at all; it only requires practice, especially in calc II where you learn new integration techniques. These techniques, by the way, will be very useful in upper division math when you need to solve even more complicated problems. But most of the time, it would be proof...and maybe in some cases, using calculus to prove your argument. That's why I said, you don't really need Calc II unless you're going into more math or engineering.. or your major simply requires it.

I'm pretty sure you'll need Calc for Physical Chem...
And Calc 2 is a pain. Hopefully I can pull a B in it.
