I'm thinking about taking Calc III, as it is an area of interest(considering a math minor), and in part because I slacked off freshman year(due to having taken AP calc in HS) and did not do as well as I should have in Calc I(on the other hand Calc II went fine). Is there any logic to taking Calc III in order to make it clear that math is not an area of weakness? My pre-req grades are solid otherwise, as was my MCAT. I'd like to state categorically that I'm not concerned about doing well in the class(I've not slipped up since that first semester of freshman year), I was just wondering if it was something worth trying, as my major is almost wrapped up at this point. I'd probably take Calc III in addition to a Stats class or two sometime over the next 3 semesters. I am currently a Junior majoring in biochem, and I have 3 required classes left to be taken over the next 3 semesters(not including this fall semester).

If you want to, go for it. If it's just to show you're good at calc, doing well in calc 2 has done that already, and honestly adcoms don't read transcripts near as closely as people seem to think they do.

Calc III is pretty easy compared to calc II. I'm a freshman in a vector calc class that combines Calc III w/ Vector & Tensor Analysis. So far, the calc III portion is very easy and I feel that it also developed my spatial reasoning in some aspects. We just finished triple/double integrals, which are basically like single integrals in calc I, except they keep some terms constant, so you basically iterate the integral w/ respect to each variable. Kind of off topic, but yeah, I think its a pretty useful class if you want to develop some spatial skills. Otherwise, you probably don't need it. Good luck! 🙂

While every school and Math department is different, this was my experience as well.

Take Calc III, especially if you have an interest in math.

Calc 3 in a sentence: integrate an expression three times in a row. Congrats, you just learned triple integrals.

Calc III was a joke when I took it last year. If you can do derivations and integrations on R2 space you should be fine on R3 space.
