hello. Can anyone who has written step 1 please comment - are there many calculations on step 1? Do they allow paper and pencil in the test center to work them out? The BRS physiology review has heaps of calculations - GFR, secretion rates, etc. I assume it is more important to know the fundamentals of the formula rather than be able to go through the calculations, is this true? Also, are calculators either allowed or accessable on the computer you are using for the test (like the Windows application)? Thanks again!

yes there are calculations, but not many. no calculators allowed, so the calculations tend to be pretty simple.

no paper/pencil in the test center either. you are given dry erase boards/marker and use that for any scratch work.

it's too early to start worrying about step 1.

there were calculations...things i remember were specificity/sensitivity/predictive value, henderson hesselbach, clearance..those were on mine for sure. i learned basically a few calcs in pharm, everything that had to do with the kidney, fick equation and all the cardio stuff, and some stuff for behavioral science.

i think that those were all i would do again, but i sure wouldn't leave any out...they may be a few more high yeild suckers, but i can't remember them now.

good luck
