Okay so I'm an engineering major and I got a C+ in honors calculus III (also, I'm a freshman). I know the general rule of thumb is don't bother to retake a class if it's higher than a C but I feel like a C+ is pretty much the same thing as a C. Alsoooo, if I start getting As from here on out to show a positive upward trend, do you guys think med school would be somewhat accepting of that C+. I'm just really upset because I've only taken two other BCPM classes so far, chemistry and physics (both As), so my BCPM GPA is pretty low.
I was just wondering what retaking a class would look like to the adcom. thanks for any and all help! happy holidays, btw!

a c+ = 2.66 on the gpa.. versus a C which is 2.0
honestly take the C+ and move on.. do better in your other bcpm classes and you'll be fine..
and btw.. your a freshman and taken all of those classes? nice...

anyway i know people who've gotten into medical school with 6 c's..
medical schools care more about your gpa then individual courses
so a C+ isnt going to kill you..

I wouldn't retake the class even if it was a straight-up C. C's happen, but retaking it doesn't really help you much since even if you get an A you still average to just a B. They care about your cGPA and your BCPM and won't take the time to really look at individual grades. I guess if you're just a freshman it'll have a fairly big effect on your GPA right now, but in the big scheme of things those 3 credits won't make that big of a dent.

You said it yourself; you've only taken two BCPM courses thus far, therefor not providing a great amount of influence. I can appreciate your disappointment, but, as hard as it may be for you, you should just remain focused on the ultimate goal, take a self-critical review of your studying habits and routines, and ask yourself what you can do in the upcoming semesters to improve your average. It can be discouraging and upsetting to have a low BCPM, but the truth is that your current BCPM is not a fair representation of your academic abilities. Likewise, if 4 semesters from now your BCPM has the same numerical value, it will suggest something entirely different than it does now. You're going to be fine, granted you are able to take the appropriate steps to improve your average(s). Hope this helps in some way, and good luck to you in the future.

How is your BCPM low if you have only taken two other classes and got A's? Either way, it is not like you got a C in a general bio course, so I wouldn't sweat it at this stage of the game. Also, it isn't even a prereq.

My heart goes out to you; I am taking Calc III right now and it is rough. Everyone says it is easier than Calc I & II, but this is largely teacher dependent.

I think you will be OK, but in the future maybe just opt to take the regular course vice honors.

A C+ is a 2.3, but I agree with those telling you not to retake. The maximum benefit is very small and not worth another semester. Take some other random easy class and get an A if you're trying to boost your BCPM.
