I think UCI and Western U have the same clerkships at the same hospitals. A few UCI professors teach at Western.

UCI is not a DO school.

Many decades ago, before it was UCI school of medicine, it was the California College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, the only DO school in the state.

During the "revolution" in the 60s, it was changed to UCI school of medicine, then Western and Touro opened up later.

Like it has been mentioned before, Western and UCI probably share some clinical rotations during 3rd year, and definitely during 4th year (since you essentially set up your own rotations for 4th year from Western). Additionally, I know quite a few COMP graduates who are in residency at UCI at the moment.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

cyclo, how do you feel about setting up your own rotations for 4th year? I met a recent graduate from COMP and he hated it. Said his counselor was flaky. Your thoughts?

Actually I think I'm looking forward to setting up my own. We'll see when I get there, but I really like the idea of having that flexibility. I can go to any number of hospitals and rotate through departments that I'd like to match into the year after. I'll try to find out more from graduates and stuff, as to what their experiences were so that I can try and prepare for whatever obstacles they had. I'll let everyone know what I find out though.
