It sounds like total chaos everytime I call the board. I've been hearing rumors that they're only handing out licenses 3 times a year, is there any truth to this or can I expect to get my license number within 60 days of them cashing my check? I've been waiting for 40 days now.

Hmmmmm... I don't know if there's any truth behind those rumors. I mean, they would say something on the application. 40 days is barely over a month and not even close to 2 months. California moves really slowly, realllllllyyyy slowwwwllyyyyyyy. Bureaucracy at its finest.

Relax!

Yeah, I don't know about the 60 days but I don't think that's the absolute standard, despite what they tell you. It could be more. Or less. Or you could just sit there for ages and ages and never know. I think after 60 days you should just start hounding them as much as you can. Also, continue to check if your license has been granted through the pharmacy board website by clicking "verify a license". I've been waiting for 2 months and I just encountered some problems with my app so mine is going to take even longer.

To their credit, every time I've called the BoP, they have been cordial and as friendly as can be expected.

I think 60 days at least is reasonable.
Wait, how do you even reach a human? I don't think I've ever been able to speak to a person. It's always automated.

When I got my license, they said either 8 or 12 weeks before I would get it, and took the entire time for them, like down to the day. You've still got time

they are quite slow. i submitted all pertinent application material on may 22nd. i have yet to hear a response and i have totally forgotten since it has been so long. time to give them a call/email.

Due to the budget crisis, California Board of Pharmacy is currently not returning any messages or emails till Sept. 10th. 🙁

I called the CA BOP on Monday 8/31 to ask a question about notarizing my PTCB certificate, and they did not exactly give me the answer I wanted to hear but I think I had to hit 0 (or some other number ) a few times and listen to other useless prompts before someone answered. I also called today to ask how long it would take to process and the lady said 60 days from the time the check is cashed. So that is odd that they will not be answering calls until Sep 10. I guess there is still a possibility that they may answer and if not you get that message.

Hopefully I don't run into any problems during my wait. I wish they processed these things faster. I called Nevada BOP since my family lives there and I am willing to work in either state, they said all I need is a license from another state, or the PTCB certificate + 500 hours of training. If I submit my CA license whenever I get it, they said it takes 1 week to process and send out your NV license! I think I might finish the 500 hours before even getting my CA license ....maybe not since I have a full time job I would like to keep until I get an actual pharm tech job.

Yea I just called them as well, and the receptionist lady said the same thing. Also, she said that once you see that the BOP has updated your pharmacy technician license status on this site: http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/online/verify_lic.shtml, then you should expect your license to come in the mail 4-6 weeks later. I proceeded to ask her why the process may be taking so long, but she told me to just call or e-mail the BOP after Sept 10. Like many of you, my check was cashed at the very beginning of June and it has been well over 60 days since then. Man I've found pharmacy technician openings in my area as well, but this license processing is holding me back. Freakin Cali..:scared:

I'm applying for a license right now. On the copy of the certificate, did we have to write "I certify that this is a true copy" and then sign it or how does that work? I want to make sure everything is right before spending the money for this license.

You need to go see a notary public and bring your certificate & tech license app with you so they can see exactly what they need to do.

Yeah I know I'll need to get it notarized, but I was worried that some places might not know what to do.

Also in the application, under the section "Affidavit of Completed Coursework or Graduation," did we have to write anything? I just studied on my own for the certificate and did not attend any school or complete any coursework. Thanks!

My check was cashed about a week after I mailed the application, around June, and on August 6 I was verified online. It still took about 3 weeks for the actual license to arrive in the mail, though.

Trust me, most licenses do not get processed until min 6 weeks after you send in the check and app. California is horrid!!

But our weather is almost always so nice! With mild winters!

When my wife makes me move to Boston for her law school next year (hoping not), the weather is great until winter when the snow comes like crazy. Ugh, I hate living in snow.
