It has come to my attention that APhA is doing a letter writing campaign to include pharmacists in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). This bill is sponsored by a few senators, but it would need much more sponsorship to go anywhere.
Basically the NHSC is a loan repayment program. The program repays pharmacists' student loans in exchange for these pharmacists working with underserved populations. Doctors, nurses, and many other types of health professionals are included in the program, but pharmacists are not. This bill seeks to include pharmacists in this loan repayment program.

APhA has put together a form letter. It will only take a few minutes for you to fill it out and send it. If you're a student, just make sure to customize it from a student's standpoint (if you don't want to, you don't have to do anything more than substitute "pharmacist" for "pharmacy student"). If you're a pharmacist, you can just leave the letter as is if you want, or customize it. The link for the letter writing campaign is http://capwiz.com/aphanet/issues/alert/?alertid=26788506

I know I posted this in another thread, but I feel that it deserves its own thread.

Im not a pharm student, should I send one anyway?

Yes. And then get everyone you know to do it. And not only that, get people who said they will do it if you do it for them. Just get their e-mail and address and do it in their name.

Even if you don't want to join the military sector of pharmacy it's nice to support the profession in any way possible. Part of the reason why pharmacists don't unite well (IMO) is that they don't really care for/don't know how to help anything outside of their industry

This is not just military. It's anything "in underserved populations", so I would imagine pharmacists in free clinics, Indian Health, etc...

Yeah. A lot of people in IHS are in a military branch, too. But you're right; I just kinda lumped them all together.

Thank you for using American Pharmacists Association Mail System.

Done. 👍

As someone who will likely be unemployed post-graduation this year.. I support this lol.
