this is important for anyone who hasnt heard anything pre-interview from wake forest yet...

i called them today to check my status, and they said my app is in an interview pile, but they arent interviewing from that pile yet. HOWEVER, they then told me that i can write a letter to the admissions committee explaining my intent to go to wake forest and it may "bump me up to an interview spot!" ive never heard of an admissions office TELLING anyone to do that...

so CALL!!!

I had a similar experience as Carbon's. In December Wake Forest told me when I called that I was in the second interview pool and that I should write a letter of interest in February to possibly get an interview. In the mail today I got a letter of rejection from Wake. kinda sucks. hang in there guys.

After reading these posts, I wrote a letter of interest 2 weeks ago and got a call to interview today. They still have a lot of slots for february, so keep the hope alive.

some people a while back said that calling got them bumped from the second to first interview pool. And it seems showing interest after interviewing from the first interview pool can be important - nobody from the first interview pool gets rejected - about half (I think) get accepted, and about half get waitlisted (of course, you need to send a letter to be entered onto the waitlist).

I was in the first pool, but got waitlisted. I was really impressed with alot about the school, but it just wasn't right for me or my fiance at this time. If I were single or had young kids, didn't desperately want to do research, and focus on just studying medicine, Wake would have been my dream. Wake is great if you want what seems like a close class, a high-tech environment, the luxury (to some; horrible to others) of doing the vast majority of your rotations in one hospital (which houses the med school), nice facilities, an emphasis is spending time in community clinics, and a safe, smaller city with lots of outdoor space nearby.

As you can tell, I have mixed feelings about not going to Wake. Same thing happened with my undergrad dream school, the University of Chicago. I got in, but decided at the last minute that it just wasn't right for who I was at the time. And I think you have to factor that into your choice of where to go to school. Hence, the rankings go straight out the window when you start interviewing.

OK, this ends my love letter of regret to Wake Forest.

when was your interview and how long after did they let you know that you were waitlisted? my interview is on friday and i am super nervous. did you find the interviews stressful or relaxing. thanks!

Just thought I would try and answer a few of your questions. The admissions committee meets about 12 times during the interviewing period (October-ish to April) and votes on all the applicants who have interviewed thus far. They then choose 15 each time for acceptance into the program. I guess it could help to interview a little earlier in the process, because the committee votes on your file more often, but a lot of people that I know of in the class of 2006 interviewed pretty late (Feb - April), including myself. Pretty much most of the students I've talked to were waitlisted at first, and then in most cases, after we expressed interest in the school, were eventually offered a place in the class.

The biggest hurdle with Wake is being offered an interview. The interview itself is of very low stress. The interviewers just want to get to know you a little better. All of mine asked questions out of my personal statement. To give you an idea of how low stress it was for me, half of my interview with one interviewer was all on Wake's basketball team and their chances in the NCAA tournament. 🙂 Best of luck with your interview on Friday and remember -- no worries!! I really think Wake is a fantastic school & I hope your experience in Winston-Salem is a great one!

I interviewed in late October. The committee meets at set times, and each time they meet they decide the fate of those who have interviewed since their last meeting. So if you're lucky, you'll interview right before they meet and get your answer very quickly. They'll explain this during the interview info session - if not, just ask and the lady should explain it all.

It was only stressful because the people know nothing about you and you have a limited amount of time - 15 minutes I believe, and they use an egg timer! But the people at my interview date were all very friendly. In fact, the lady doing the timing when I was there is the wife of some retired big-wig doctor who's had 3 sons (or something) go through the med school app process, and she wanted to help make it more friendly. Talk about a nice lady!

Basically, the people at the interview are just trying to get to know you. So be as relaxed as you can.
