I was just recently told by my friend, who is applying to dental schools too, that I should be calling admissions offices. Even though my application says under review on ADEA site. Is she right that I should call? Does calling the office really make them think you're that much more interested that they will look at your application more carefully?

I don't see how it would hurt. But you'll probably end up hearing, "Your application is still being reviewed".

I've wondered the same thing this whole cycle. I would hate to call and come off as annoying (I'm sure other people are calling and checking on a status may be annoying). And call and say what though, "pretty please"?

Actually, I called Midwestern, AZ and got an answer right away on the status. I only called because I read that people had good luck with getting through/getting answers according to the school specific thread so that's the only reason I called.

I called each school after submission to see if all my files were properly received on their end. A few school actually put my file under active review only after the call so I would definitely giving them a quick call just to confirm everything is fine with your application.

Personally, what I have found is that e-mailing is the best option. Some schools blatantly prefer it, like Case Western, and I totally understand why. For the schools, it allows them to have a better opportunity to check out your file instead of quickly searching for it while you are on the line, waiting for a response. Also, it gives you the opportunity to more clearly articulate what you are thinking and sort of put everything out there at once. Let them know how interested in the school you are, and also, include some relevant updates to your application and politely ask if they could be added to your file.

I've called two offices, both to clarify my status because there were potential issues. As it turned out, I was able to resolve them. I never really understood calling to "express interest" in a school, but it seems to work for others. If you're calling because you're nervous...😱 then don't call.
