Hey people, can any of you share about applying late in the cycle for fall 2010 and still getting accepted? By late, I mean being completed with everything by the end of September. It would be greatly appreciated if you could say what school you got into as well. Thanks and good luck with medical school!!

It's possible, but you'll need higher than average stats to be competitive this late in the cycle. If you're sitting with a cGPA around 3.5 and an MCAT around 30, I bet you'd stand a good chance. Anything drastically lower than that would be a bit of a gamble--you could maybe land yourself on a waitlist with a chance of a late acceptance next spring/summer. The problem is that a complete application at the end of September will take a few weeks to make it out to the schools. It might be November by the time they actually review your application, late November before an interview happens, and by then, spots at most schools are getting pretty scarce.

I was reading the threads from like 2008-2009 and it seems like a good amount of people applied really really late as in Jan-March and they still got in. I know a lot of the people on this forum applied super early. I wanted to get some input from the class of 2014 since they are the most recent students that applied besides us.

For me, everything will be complete by this week because my stupid premed advisor didn't send out my DO letter when I gave it to her last week. And she "doesn't know" how use interfolio or v. eval so she snail mails it to each school. I have a 28M and 3.87(sGPA) and 3.88(cGPA).

I just wanted to hear from some people who applied late last season and see how they turned out. Thanks for the input Slane!

Just wanted to point out... complete in september isn't late... Late would be January and on. I had a horrible GPA last year and didn't finish my first secondary until October 1st and I got two interviews which lead to waitlists. MANY people interviewed after me and still got acceptances.

If you are complete later in the cycle, get the earliest interview date that you can. IIRC, my March/April interviews last year were mostly for waitlist spots anyway. I had to call the admissions office to learn that though...
