Hey,

I have been accepted into University of Washington as an out of state student from Virginia. I am just anxious about going from a semester school to a quarter school. Can anyone enlighten me on how you adjusted? (if you were in the same situation.)
can anyone share their experience there? whether you enjoy it, and any other advice? Thanks!

My undergrad and few grad classes were in semester, but pharmacy school at OSU is quarter system.

It wasn't hard to adapt as long as you not a slacker IMHO.

The main difference in a quarter system is that it hits the ground running, you don't have the first week or two to work yourself back into the study mode. Many of professors often have the tendency of trying to cram a semester worth of material into a quarter. 😳

The good thing is it's easier to tough out 10 weeks than 15 weeks before you get a breather. And if you have a cumulative exam, it's usually not as bad (mostly the compounding labs, which are easy anyway). 🙄

Your school year probably also will starts and ends later.

To be honest. I actually prefered the quarter system just by a tiny margin. It feels more fast paced, less of "dragging on". Just practice self discipline -- never fall behind by more than couple of days, and you'll do fine.

thanks for giving great advice! i guess quarter system is good in that you will retain the material better for finals and such since u learned it not too long ago.

Not really in that sense. Most finals are not cumulative, so it's not much of an advantage.

The only cumulative ones we had are the 3 compounding labs, the physical exam class, and the law class. The first 2 are because they are practical exams, the last is because you have to. 🙂
