I heard we can find out the state we matched in (or maybe even the city) if we call on Monday. Is this true? (So SO/husband etc can scramble to same state on Tuesday if needed)

I believe you're correct that if you're couples matching and only one member of the couple matches, then you can find out the city to help facilitate the scramble process for the other half of the couple.

I presume this is only for couples? I'd say no fair, but then I'm also so glad that I don't have all the extra worries of trying to couples match.

What if you have a SO and you guys decided not to couples match?

If (and only if) you are part of a couples Match and one of you did not match then (and only then) will NRMP tell you the city where the matched partner matched (cities if they matched prelim and advanced) but not the program.

Not related to couples matching but...

I heard from another student that if you match to advanced position and do not match for prelim, you will be told what state your advanced position is in on Monday so that you can try to scramble for a prelim spot close by.

Can't verify this and have no idea if it's true, just something I heard.

Also true. As is the converse situation (match to prelim but not advanced) although your chances there are much slimmer.

You would only be able to find out what city your partial match was in, not what city your SO matched to.

I wanted to point out that there is no reason not to couple's match, other than the (relatively minor) extra fee and more work putting the ROL together. You don't need to tell programs that you are couple's matching. As long as you list all possible combinations of matches, you cannot be "hurt" by the couples match and it lets you control which combinations are better than others.
