Can AACOMAS and AMCAS Science GPAs be different?

AACOMAS does not include math courses in their science GPA calculation.

Yes and also repeated courses are calculated different. Some courses included in AACOMAS science GPA will not be included in the AMCAS GPA. The pre-osteo FAQ gives details on all of this.

Also when the med schools get your grades they will group the classes their way so it may differ from school to school.

This happened to me and in the AACOMAS GPA I went down a by 0.2. Do they calculate it different?

Yea, tell me about it...i went from a 3.0 sci gpa to a 2.93 sci gpa when math got thrown out! now i have to take an extra class just to break the 3.0 barrier (which is still pathetic-definitely insult to injury).

Thanks for the help. By the way does anyone know the GPA cutoffs/procedures for Western?

That's something I didn't know before. Thanks for the info. The GPA will be a little more lopsided.

The AACOMAS science GPA calculation can be beneficial if you did not do well in math since it is not included.

Also, AACOMAS has a grouping for "other science" so it also includes other sciences such as engineering, which is not considered a science by AMCAS. Again, this could be a benefit or not depending on how well you did in other science classes.

The one benefit with AACOMAS is that grades are replaced if the class is retaken. AMCAS just averages all the classes.

Okay, I am super happy about that. I got 2 frickin' C's in Calc!

Yahoooo!
