Hi all,
I was wondering if we can have AMCAS send the transcripts, letters, etc to the DO school application system (AACOMAS I think?) I read on AACOMAS that they can send to AMCAS but I do not know if it can be done the other way around too, I didnt even realize you had to use two different systems until now.

No.

You'll have to send in transcripts separately.

Some schools have a letter handling service that they subscribe to. Ask your advisor/committee persons if there is anything like that. If not, you can use Interfolio and ask them to upload their letters electronically---it'll cost you I think 20$.

You'll also have to have your MCAT scores released to AACOMAS.

That sucks, and I was hoping for for an easy button on this one

lol, yeah, I was too when I was doing it.

Once you get the ball rolling on stuff, it's really not that bad though. The sooner the better--it seemed like around that September/October window it was taking 6-8 weeks to verify.

I wouldnt mind doing it all again, but after reading more about LECOM they require a letter from a DO...I have only worked with MD's...I'll just keep my fingers crossed that I do well on my next MCAT so I dont have to apply DO (it is a nice security blanket though)

Don't let that run you off.

That almost deterred me too. But, alot of DO's had to go through the same process of obtaining a letter. Most are very understanding.

I made a few phone calls, told up front that I needed a letter, and would like to spend some time with him. I shadowed for a day, and it worked out.

A friend met with a DO interview style, left a resume', and that worked out as well.

It's intimidating approaching someone you don't know and asking for their help--especially someone that stays fairly busy. But, you'll find them very approachable and willing to help.

If you come across 1 that isn't, try again. What's the worst that happens, they say no?
