For a bilateral distal extension on the maxillary, can we use an altered cast technique? From an exam that I have. Thanks.

We've been taught about this technique on the lower but nobody ever seemed to mention the upper.

Why wouldn't you be able to take an altered cast impression for the upper? Try figuring out what the purpose of the altered cast impression technique rather than relying on cookie cutter answers. There's no such thing as cookie cutter in removable.

Yup! It's more common in the mandibular, but I've heard it done in the maxillary as well. Think about if there's a ton of flabby tissue there; it may be good to use it to get a more accurate impression.

(not responsible for any test answers; this is just my experience.)
