Can anybody explain the Texas schools on the AMCAS?

I see all the UT schools with (AMCAS) written next to them... Is this a legit way to get around the separate Texas application or do they basically throw the out of state applications in the trash and collect $32? Or, to show you seriously want to go to a UT school as an out of stater, should you take the time to fill out the TMDSAS?

You can only apply to the MD/PhD programs for the TX schools that have AMCAS in parentheses next to them. For the regular MD programs, you have to apply through TMSDAS, though, as you mentioned, those schools generally have very low out of state admission rates.

This.

The application is pretty much the same, but TMDSAS is a ***** and really not user-friendly. The PS prompt asks a slightly different question, but for the most part you can use the same PS. There are also two "optional" essays. Beyond that, it's just going through the process of typing all that stuff in again. Depending on how you did your activity descriptions, you may have to rework those as TMDSAS only gives you 300 characters for each activity.
