Agreed with the above. APPCN, as an organization, doesn't (and can't) prevent a site from losing funding, such as during a national emergency. I believe APPCN member sites are discouraged or prohibited from recruiting for positions for which funding is not secure, but in an unprecedented situation such as this, some things are outside a site's control.

Definitely possible. We'll all be in uncharted territory in terms of dealing with the effects of this pandemic on training, hours, and such. I imagine many of us will have to spend more time looking at applications and trying to take into account the disruptions this and likely next year when evaluating. Trying time for all, and we're all doing what we can to mitigate damage.

Like WisNeuro said: yes, that's a possibility. Alternatively, the trainee may be able to find another spot for the current cohort, such as one that wasn't filled or wasn't offered during the match (e.g., because funding wasn't secured until later). I imagine there may also be a small number of spots that open up if applicants can't or won't ultimately relocate to fill them.
