Hi, i was hoping to find an answer here. Do any of you know if barium enemas, meals and swallows can be done with a mobile C-ARM equipment? Or is it absolutely necessary to have a fixed equipment? My hospital is renewing its fluoro equipment now, occasionnally used for the above mentionned procedures. However, as a new pain specialist joining the service, I need a C-ARM to do my techniques. Is there a C-ARM equipment that would be able to do both? What are the specs required for dble contrast enemas? Is the new AXIOM artis U from siemens powerful enough? (80 kw). Would it need an image intensifier?

any insight would be greatly appreciated

My first instinct is to say no... i don't think it's possible to do a decent BE or swallow study with c-arm. Might want to try posting this in the AuntMinnie forums... you'd most certainly get more detailed replies

Barium fluoro studies should be done with a stationary c-arm. The Artis U most closely approximates the functionality of a stationary, but it's still mostly meant for angio-related procedures. If your facility is looking to get some new rigs, this wouldn't necessarily be a bad buy, but if you're strictly looking for a mobile GI solution, the technology doesn't seem to be quite there yet, and so you may be a bit disappointed.
