Can doctors take career breaks?

Are doctors able to say, after a few years of practising medicine - take sabbatical leave / a career break for reasons such as focusing on family, or travelling or whatever. Are they able to return after this break and resume practising medicine or would they have to prove their dexterity / get recertified.

Yes, you can do whatever you want. I believe recertification exams are field dependent, but they aren't based on taking a career break.

I see you're a pre-med student. I'd first focus on getting in to school before you worry about a mid-career sabbatical.
