Hi,

I was wondering if I accepted an offer to hold my spot, does the school contact other schools within AMCAS and does my application from others get withdrawn?
Or can I still attend other interviews and change my selection by May15?

It says on the offer letter that I have 3 weeks to accept!! What do I do?? 😕

Thx =)

Of course you can attend other interviews. You can accept as many schools as you want as long as you only have one remaining accepted by May 15th.

Oh I dont know about the Canadian process though?

If you are talking about the acceptance to an American medical school, then everything spatula said is true.

I don't know about Canada...is it that state by Texas?

Just for terminology sake, it is the school that is "accepting" you, not the other way round. The deposit is just to hold the spot, effectively you have bought an "option", not accepted their offer. And yes, you can continue to interview.

Contrary to what you've been told, you cannot attend interviews after an acceptance. AAMC rules and regulations provide that all interview invites received after a acceptance must be immediately forwarded to me.

I refer you to article XIX section 4 item 7 bylaw 2, which clearly allows me to take those. 😀

Hmm...actually, schools don't have a monopoly on "acceptance" (or "rejection").

As far as medical school admissions goes, a student has to apply for admission, which the school can accept🙂 or reject🙁 .

And if the student is found desirable by the school, they extend an offer of acceptance which the student can in turn accept😀 or reject😉 .

It's a two way street.

I guess, but using those terms is I think what got the OP confused in the first place. When you put down a deposit you haven't accepted to attend -- you are only holding a space. So you have an option to later decide to attend.

No, you're thinking of Alaska and Hawaii. They're buried somewhere in Mexico. Don't you remember all the maps we've seen since 1st grade? Some people have no concept of geogrpahy...

You're right. I guess the OP needs to understand that paying the deposit and accepting the offer doesn't mean one is contractually and legally bound to attend the school.

Hey CanadianHopeful,
congrats on getting into US Medical school.
I am a canadian wishing to apply US medical school. I do not have any status in US.

I was wondering if you can give us some more info:
-Do you hold any US status (i.e. Citizenship, perm residency or something)
-Where did u goto undergrad & what program?
-How were your stats (MCAT, GPA...)
-Which universities u applied for & who invited you for interview...

I would really appreciate your input on this matter...

thanks,

non-rolling schools -- e.g. OHSU -- might not send acceptances before May 15 -- what then? accept to one school, reject the rest, then wait to hear from OHSU? what if you get accepted to your top choice later in the summer - can you still drop the school you accepted to? i'm guessing you can do that, or else spots wouldn't open up during the summer.
