I am FM resident who is interested in joining the Air Force. However I love surgery and like to practice as a surgeon. If I enter the AF as a Family Practicioner, it is easier for me to apply and do a second residency in general surgery at an army sponsored hospital/residency? I basicly want to be a surgeon in the military, but I have a FM background. Can the millitary help me become a surgeon?

Thanks.

Simple answer is maybe. Assuming you are fully qualified to be in the service, you could join do a tour as an FP and then apply for a General Surgery spot. You might have to repeat a GS internship. Going AF and applying for Army GME is a big stretch though.
