Hi guys. I just used the calc in the other thread to see what my science GPA is. I only took one bio and Calc. Got A- in bio, and C- in calc. Aghh!!! I have a question though. Is there any way I can retake the CAlc? Will Dental Schools ltake the higher of the two grades?

Anyway I estimate that when Im done. I will possibly have a science GPA of 3.2, and and overall of 3.5-3.6

Assuming I get 16/16/16 on the DATs. Will I have a lot of options? Thanks in advance.

With straight 16's on the DAT, probably not. You need to take more science classes, ie bio, chem, etc. Dental Schools will calculate both grades if you choose to retake calculus.

It depends on the school, but they will not simply take the higher score. They might average them, however.

You will have a good chance with that GPA, but I would aim for a higher DAT score. Most schools would say 18 is a competitive score, while 20 is better. It really depends on where you want to go. Best of luck!

thanks guys. I know I have to take mroe sciences but ifigured if I get As in half of them my Science GPA will be 3.3 (because of stupid calc) and overall prolly above a 3.5.

So with that GPA I just want to know if it will be a hinderance to me, if I score average on the DATs. Thanks,

your grades look really solid as far as getting into d school, I think if you study well for the DAT there is no way you'd get only 16's. shoot for 19+ on all sections (it's very doable if you put in the time) and you'll get interviews everywhere if in fact you also have a 3.5+ when you apply. good luck 🙂

Hey man you have to realize something. Most of the people that are on these forums are very exceptional and very anal as well. Probably you and I are too!

However, your stats are fine. Dont worry so much..... These dorks with the great stats that you see with the crude comments in no way represent the average dental student. I think your fine if you can interview good.

Good luck!

great. Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone.

In undergrad... if you shoot for B's, you'll get B's or C's. On your DAT, if you shoot for 16's, you'll get 16's or 17's. That's not good enough. Shoot for 20's.

I got a 23 on the DAT and got into everyschool but the average at one school was a 16 so does that mean people get lower than 16 ???

Probably. So dont sweat it.

take 16 and run.

I think the national average on the DAT for the past few years has been 17...so you definetly don't want to shoot for below average. With your gpa, 18 across the board will get you a handful of interviews and acceptances. I'm not someone who is going to claim that its a walk in the park to score in the 20's...I didn't score in the 20's...but I feel like you might be underestimating your capabilities by shooting for a 16...your gpa shows that you most likely have enough background knowledge to get a decent score with a little effort.

I don't really know if I would retake that calculus...one unattractive grade of C- is not going to make or break your chances. Granted, during the interview, you'll probably be asked to explain that C-, but if you can BS well, you're fine. Try not to screw up the quantitative reasoning section on your DAT, and you're golden. On your application, AADSAS averages both the first grade and the new grade (retake) into your GPA, but the dental schools get a copy of your whole transcript, so they see both letter grades as well. Most likely, though, they'll place more weight on the retake and look highly on the fact that you took another stab at it and improved. Still, like I said before, it may or may not be worth it...just depends on how well you feel like you can redeem yourself. One bad grade isn't the end of the world. Good luck! :luck:

take a different calculus (ie if you took calc 1A, take calc 1B and get a good grade in it, at least a B but shoot for an A).

REdo the calculus class or just apply to a school that does not require calc. MAybe they wont be so hard on you since they dont require it?

3 words for you my friend. NO NO NO.

assuming you will get 16? if thats what you are planning on getting, then you are already setting yourself for failure. dont assume you are gonna get 16. tell me you WILL get 20's then we'll talk about the rest.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
