Hey guys...
I scored highly on the MCCEE, but not so much on the MCCQE1. The latter is not required for my specific specialty... can I not report it or hide it when I apply for the match? I seriously think it could affect my chances....

In my residency program having passed the MCCQE1 was an advantage. For the single IMG spot offered, there were several filters and that was one of them. I think the benefit of passing it supersedes a crappy score.

Really, your MCCQE1 score is going to be relatively small potatoes in the overall scheme of things. The factors that are greatly going to impact your likelihood of matching are:

1) electives
2) LOR
3) English / French fluency
4) some PDs have very particular favourites when it comes to the school / country issuing the MD

Canadian schools pick their residents based on how much they like them. Are you personable? Do we get a warm fuzzy feeling when we are around you? Will you fit in with the rest of the team? This is probably because none of the Canadian grads and many IMGs won't have MCCQE1 scores at the time they match (the exam is traditionally done in late spring of fourth year, long after the match has run). For super competitive spots, electives & LOR become every so much more important, publications become vital and the interview is critical for tie-breaking.

Can you hide the results? As far as I know, supplying these results is voluntary. Contact the MCC to find out for sure.
