Question: If I was applying to a competitive residency, say derm, but my chances were 50/50 (ie average derm applicant; would be very competitive for most other residencies) is it possible to set it up so:

-If I match derm, I do a transitional year (ideal)
-BUT if I dont match derm, I match in a prelim (and therefore give myself the option of doing 2 more years and finishing IM as Plan B if I want to).

Is there a way to do this in ERAS?
thanks guys,
K

Absolutely.

You would first rank each of your derm programs. For each derm program you list, you create a supplemental list for PGY-1's (so you can actually pick and choose which prelim/TY you want per derm program).

After that, you can rank prelim IM, TY, or even Cat IM if you want. Then, if you don't match in derm, you get something else.
