I am foreign medical graduate from India and completed my medical degree in 2006. I took Step 1 with 200 in 2007 and Step 2 with 193 in 2009. both passed on first attempt. I went from top ranked medical college in India and have been practing medicine in government sector ever since. I will be applying to residency as permanent resident since my wife lives in the us. Do I have any chance of matching into family medicine or internal medicine anywhere in the US.

I don't have any research experience. But I am getting LORs from the US clinicians. Also How much role connections play? Thank you in advance.

As an IMG 5 years out of a foreign med school with relatively low Step scores, and no research, your odds of matching into something categorical aren't amazing, I'm afraid. FM is your best bet but you will have to apply very widely. Connections can play a big role, but you are going to still be behind every US grad and all the higher Step scoring foreign grads for most spots.
