if i want to reuse the same LOR

do i have to use interfolio?

or should i simply ask the dentist or professors who wrote LOR again next cycle? (but i dont really think they will keep the letters?..)

i've asked professors multiple times for rec letters. i went to a big school and it was really hard to get to know professors to any degree. i have one prof whom i will be asking a letter from for the fourth time (second time for dental school). i know it's not ideal, but sometimes you don't have any other choice. if you reuse a letter from last year, it will have the date from last year on it and adcoms might not look too favorably on that. most professors will keep the letters they wrote for you. and if they have the time, they'll 'update' if you have any additional information they can add.

AADSAS doesn't keep LORs, so if you do not use Interfolio and you think you may have to re-apply next cycle, I'd put your running shoes on, cause you'll be chasing down those professors to no end, to get that one letter they may have kept from a year ago. I'm surprised more people don't use this service! It's fantastic! Better to be safe than sorry👍

What is interfolio? Can someone please explain

I highly recommend Interfolio! Use interfolio to store your letters. If you need to reapply next cycle, I would reuse 3 and get 1 new one (or something like that)

Question about using a service like Interfolio: how bad does it look to use reuse the same LOR's? Is this a fairly common practice if you reapply?

I think consensus is;

Best: All new letters

Pretty good: Old letters, +1 new one

Won't really hurt you, but if you can avoid, avoid: Reuse, as long as they are within 1-2 years old max.

Miss chievous, If you did not have an actual answer to my question, then why bother responding. There was no need for the witty remark.

Thanks to all those who answered my question.

what if you've been out of school for a while and you can't get new letters from professors?

I would just reuse the old ones. Only some schools require that you get new letters of recommendation every year. Some require new letters every 2 years, etc. Just depends where you apply.

If don't have any at all, you will very likely need to take some courses to get letters of recommendation. In my case, I had to go back to college, take 2 science courses (chem and bio) just to get letters of recommendation for this year.

It does not matter on the course difficulty level as most of the schools only require that it is a science professor from a particular science background (bio, chem, physics). Just don't repeat courses and you will be fine.
