Hey guys,

I am confused about the course requirements for Pitt. I was on a quarter system and only had to take one quarter of biochem.

For Pitt their course requirements says that "Bio-Chemistry - Requirement: one half year of coursework." According to AMCAS my biochem class was 2.70 semester hours. Am I not allowed to apply to Pitt if less than one half year of coursework?

You're allowed to apply, but you may need to take another class to satisfy the requirement prior to matriculating there if you are accepted and choose to attend.

Where do you find this? I too am on a quarter system. Granted, mine is equivalent to 3 SH credits, but still.

Just a general rule of thumb. Prereqs need to be completed before matriculation, not before applying.

To OP, my understanding is that a typical biochemistry class is either 3 SH or 5 QH and they are equivalents.
my class was 2.70 semester hours. I actually called the admissions office today and I asked that if I am on the quarter system how many classes should I take for biochem. The admissions person helping me out told me 2, so I was a bit concerned.

The admissions person told you 2 classes or 2 credits?

specifically, she said that 2 classes will satisfy the 1 semester requirement

somehow all other schools I have applied to all were fine with just 1 class
I just looked up my degree plan and it turns out I can take Metabolism (Biochem 2) this coming year as opposed to hematology. Lucky me! Will go that route if II before I enroll in winter quarter...

makes sense. Yeah, I called all schools and somehow Pitt is the only one that told me this lol

@MemeLord Also, a quick question if you don't mind. If i submitted my primary before spring quarter grades were submitted and I list one of those classes as satisfying the core competency courses for Pitt, do I list that class as current or future because technically it doesn't fit either category?

Prereq courses are not checked as part of the admissions process. They are checked only AFTER you have taken up an offer of acceptance during prematriculation. Here you have to have official transcripts sent directly to the medical school for that purpose.

As aside I am noticing more schools stating that prereqs must be completed earlier in the cycle, as early as January 31 of matriculation year. So be aware of this for your schools
@gonnif Thanks for your help.

I also had one quick question if you don't mind. If I submitted my primary app before spring quarter grades were submitted and I list one of those classes as satisfying the core competency courses for a medical school, do I label that class as current or future or do I leave it blank because technically it doesn't fit either category?
