Hi, I needed to know i would have any chance what so ever of getting in to a dental school if I sent in my application to AADAS the 2nd week of January. I know this would be applying really, really late. I didn't apply earlier because I decided I wanted to do dentistry just this past summer. I graduated last year with a degree in Computer Engineering and a GPA of 3.85. I am currently taking all the required classes to apply and will have the following done by the time I apply:
1 semester Biology and Lab
1 semester Inorganic Chemistry and Lab
1 semester Organic Chemistry and Lab

Also, I will take the DAT 2 weeks from today. Thanks in advance for any help!

you have a shot at NYU...a good one.

I don't know if you have a shot, but Im pretty sure almost everyone before you probably has priority on a waiting list. Added that you havent taken physics yet. But what do I know! Anything is possible. If I were you, I'd just save my money and apply during the next round.

oh, i forgot...I already took physics too.

There's always a chance, but you should definitely apply as soon as you can. Your gpa is good, and I'm sure that you'll do well on the DAT. It's important just to get your app out there so they can review it for any remaining interview dates. I know there have been a couple ppl who have gotten interview without their DAT scores. I'll defer to the more senior members on whether you should focus more on your DAT right now or getting your apps in...

cheers & best of luck!

If you do decide to apply this year, you'll need to choose your schools carefully. Many schools have application deadlines of Jan 1. or Feb. 1. I don't think that you'll be able to make either of those deadlines, which will narrow down your choices some.

If your goal is simply to get into school, then you could apply. If you have a school you wish to attend, then I would advise you to wait until next year. The 2004 application process begins in only 6 months, which truly isn't that long of a time.

My advice to you is to wait until the next cycle and apply early. I think you'll have a pick of schools to choose from, rather than being forced to attend one school because all of the other ones are full due to a late application.

I suggests you wait till next year to apply. You have a very good gpa and if you do well on your DATs and apply early next year, you'll get into many of your top choice schools. As of this point, you won't have alot of choices. Even if you got like a 25 or something on the DAT, its not guaranteed you'll get in anywhere.

d-

it wont hurt to apply this year. many schools have a jan 1st deadline though, so look into that first. the only thing you will have to lose in the money. if that is not an issue, go ahead. there are still many applicants who havent interviewed yet and you can get accepted as late as april (or possibly later, but thats the latest ive heard). so you do have a chance. however, it is slim.

if i had to do it again, i would bypass AADSAS and fill out an application to the individual schools and send it to them directly. if nothing else, definately send your letters of rec and transcripts DIRECTLY to the schools. i, along with many others on this forum, have had problems with aadsas those materials. i ended up re-sending letters directly to each school anyway. it will take more work on your end, but it will be worth it.

im assuming that you can get these individual applications from the admissions office of each dental school. some schools may even have an application to download from their website. upenn, for example, has a secondary you can get from their site. make sure to dl this and fill it out right away so you can send it WITH your primary app. thats all i can think of right now. if you have any other questions, you can PM me.
