I know there's been topics about this, but not much feedback through looking at the searches.

I just graduated with a history major and minor in health. The main glaring issue on my app is though though I have a 3.68 gpa, i have an estimated 3.5 science. And the fact that my biology grades are lower than my physcial sciences (chemistry/ochem and math-y stuff are good) is annoying. In my 3 bio prereqs I got B's and a C+. I want to take more bio, but am scared I'll do worse. I don't know what's happening with bio, maybe I'll take comunity college classes.

Anyways, that being said, do I still have a chance at a med school acceptance? I read some threads about working to do good on MCAT BIO section to make up (which I realize takes harder work on my part). I'm just really paranoid after seeing other threads =(

Typical SDN neuroticism.

You'll be fine.

I got B-/C(Bio), A/B+(Orgo), B+/A-(Calc), B/B(Chem).

I have a 3.67 (3.2/3.8/3.9 trend) cGPA and 3.6 (3.0/3.8/3.8 or something trend) sGPA.

I do have a ~3.9 major (neuro) GPA though, which is what really helped my science.

11/9/10 S MCAT (PS/V/BS)

Obviously n = 1 isn't enough to say you will get in, but I would put your chances at average or better (50-60%) especially if you have all the ECs and an upward trend.

Edit: Oops forgot to say I got in somewhere

3.5 science GPA isn't going to kill your chances at all. But with a lower GPA, it is very important that you prepare well for the MCAT and aim for a 33-34 or higher. If you manage that, you should have a shot at quite a few med schools. The top-tier schools may be out of reach, but there are still many other medical schools out there.

I have two acceptances with a 3.5 sGPA. I also had an upward trend my junior year and a good MCAT, and I think those things helped to offset the issue of GPA. Definitely don't write yourself off!

Hm, though my culm GPA is steady; my science has a slight downward especially during junior year due to personal family stuff (taking care of grandparent). And because I'm a non science, so everything was taken my first two yrs.

However, I won't let that deter my chances. I'll try and beat the odds 🙂. Thanks and congrats.

I think you could also mention the dip in 'additional information' when it comes to secondaries, as well as during interviews. For one, I specifically addressed my GPA in an interview answer (no numbers, just generalities), but I emphasized the idea that I worked not just to improve it, but to also develop my study habits, state of mind, discipline, etc. and show to the adcom that I was ready for the rigor of medical school classes, because that clearly wasn't evident from my sGPA.

I have a two C+'s (one in a bio lab), one C, and a 3.5 GPA and got accepted. You still have a chance.
