Hi everyone,

I am on internship in Kansas and will receive my PsyD at the end of the year. Perhaps I am overly ambitious, but I am looking into whether it is possible to complete the EPPP before I begin post-doc.

If I am understanding Kansas licensing laws correctly, it appears that anyone with a Masters degree or who has completed their Doctoral comprehensive exams can apply for a "Masters Level Psychologist License". Applying for this makes you eligible for taking the EPPP, which you need a 60% pass in order to get an MLP License.

Would it be possible to take the EPPP for the MLP, get above a 70% pass rate, and use this score when I eventually apply for a Clinical Psychologist license?

How long are EPPP scores good for?

I probably will not be staying in Kansas, so I know that there is a "Score Transfer" fee from ASPPB but I am not sure if this would be legitimate since I technically took the exam for a Masters level license. I imagine that it might be attractive to post-docs or job positions to see that I have completed the EPPP already, if it counts for doctoral licensing...

Thank you.

It's a more expensive option since you'll need to pay the MLP application fees in addition to the EPPP fee, and then you'll have to pay for another set of licensure fees when you apply for your full/unrestricted psychology license. If it's worth the extra time and money to you personally, go ahead, but I don't think having taken the EPPP will make you more competitive for postdocs. If you have any unfinished grad school business (papers, dissertation, etc.), that should take priority.

I know someone who took the route you described. He did it bc he had more time at the end of internship to study then he'd have on fellowship. It should be pretty straight forward, just an added fee or two. If you have the time/money, then it seems like a nice option so you aren't trying to balance post-doc, studying, and interviewing for jobs at the same time.

took it early ..like a boss.. Scores last forever. Transfer fee is $85 right now

I know someone who did that and was able to get the job they wanted right out of internship because of it.

If your dissertation is done and you have the prep time, go for it. It can't see any disadvantage to having it done and if you reach the passing score for states of interest you will only have to take their state-specific law/ethics exam.

I did this, but in a different state. I have not transferred my score yet as I am still on internship, but since I passed above the psychologist score, I will not have to take it again. I will just pay to get my score transferred to my state when I apply for licensure as a psychologist. My application fee for my MA-level license was $100 and then I will have to pay the transfer fee ($85 or possibly less if you credit your credentials with the ASPPB credential bank). So essentially, $200 extra to do it this way. My dissertation was complete before I started studying.
