Can most people tell at the time of interview if they've been accepted?

at that point is it soley dependent on the interview? Does the interviewer know that if it's a good interview the candidate will definitey be accepted? Do they give you an indication at how it went and your chances while you are there? or can most students gauge that themselves?

Remember, it's just like the MCAT. It's not how well/poorly you did, but how well/poorly you do relative to everyone else.

i think there is a thread out there bout this....

without the link, i'm not going to find it...

That thread is sort of related to your question. I think that it depends on the school. I've never heard of schools offering you an assessment right there on the spot, but I think that people (generally) have some idea of how their interview was.

I thought I aced one interview and did so-so on the other. Went back and looked at my files -- I got the same excellent grade on both. Ya never know. 🙂

How did you get the chance to look at your files?

only if you are psychic

At my school, once you start your first year you can look at your file. You still cannot see the LOR's from college if you rescinded that right when you applied but you can see your interview comments and everything else that goes in (evals from 3rd and 4th years, etc.).

I usually ask them if they are going to recommend me.

Wow, Meg, that's bold. Does that work? 😉

wow i think that's rather bold, perhaps inappropriate; is this commonly done?

Hi guys. First year med student here.

I could tell after almost every single one of my interviews if I got in or not. Some interviewers even went as far as saying "I really enjoyed this interview, I hope to see you next fall." So in my case, yes you know. I think there was one interview that I was surprised that I got on the waiting list. Didn't really understand why.

Psycho, the opinion that I've formed after reading stuff on here is that no, you probably won't be able to tell. The school hasn't decided on you generally while you're there for the interview. They do, however want you to decide on them, because that insures the most flexibility for them. So they'll talk as if you're a shoe-in, to build your interest/loyalty to them, while gathering information on you that the ADCOM will discuss and decide on in meetings.

See what I mean?

I've read several stories on here where people have said that their interviewers seemed to really like them, one even said "I hope to see you next fall," and they didn't end up getting in, or were waitlisted. I've also seen people who thought their interviews went badly and they still got in (or were waitlisted).

most interviewers dont have a say in whether your accepted or not so they can stump for you but its really the whole committee, so it can go either way...

my interviewer basically TOLD me...he used odd words like " when you come here" etc etc.....then at the end he told me that the adcom usually never goes against him...and he was goin to put a definit YES for my app....and like magic..im in....go with your gut..... :luck:

It also depends on how much weight the school places on the interview. There are schools were the interview makes up a very small percentage of the application. You could "knock out" the interview, and still not get in. Other places "level the playing field" at the interview, there you might have a better idea.

BTW - As a former interviewer, I would caution against the direct asking of "are you going to recommend me?".

Watch out on this kind of thing. I've been told this at a job interview only to later find out that I didn't get the job (I had been told that I 100% had it at the time of the interview). 🙄

one of my interviewers told me that as far as he was concerned, I was in, and that the interview was just a formality. Maybe that's a sign, but unfortunately interviews don't get the final word on these things.
