Hi,

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how people approached not being able to read senior's hand written notes. I am only able to make out one or two letters out of an entire line sometimes, and I am horrible at "filling in" the rest of the letters.

Some things I have tried are joking about how difficult it is to read notes, asking interns, residents for help (somehow they are able to read it better than me), and paying way more attention so i don't have to rely on the note when we verbally run the list. The problem is that my attending still hasn't written more legible notes, and I don't expect him to because he's the boss. Plus, yes, I can go ask him after what his note says but it is just a no win situation so I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Thanks, I really appreciate EMR's now (besides the obvious host of reasons).

Quite often it was just "agree" when I was on surgery. Now reading consult notes, that's another matter...

I'm pretty sure one of my attendings on my current rotation just scribbles his pen across the page with no intention of making actual letters or words. It's ridiculous. The nurses always have to call to ask what he wants, and then he gets upset about it.
