Can people receive merit aid without submitting a financial aid application?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I read of someone receiving a full-ride scholarship for an MD program even before the FAFSA opened for submission.

Just wondering if there's any chance of scholarship/grant money without applying to financial aid (need-based aid) per se.

Based on your current options, I think you have some good prospects for merit scholarships! Most of the schools I have interviewed at don't look at financials/FAFSA/etc. for merit scholarships. It might vary by school, though.

Some schools I've seen say they need the FAFSA for any aid at all. Other schools started giving merit aid alongside acceptances back in April, pre-FAFSA, so presumably they don't require it. 🙂

Thanks y'all for your responses 🙂🙂

I was awarded a scholarship to one of my schools before receiving financial aid stuff
