Due to some technical difficulties, I just got my transcript and my photo uploaded by my deans office on friday...but now almost 6 programs I haven't heard anything from have downloaded my photo...

I thought they weren't allowed to download it until an interview has been offered? Can someone clarify this?

They can "offer" you an interview by clicking on a button on the right hand side of ERAS to grant an interview, look at the picture, then uncheck the granted interview box if they just wanted to look at it.

All the programs that I applied (including those that rejected me AND about 10 programs that I am yet to hear from) have downloaded my photo . So, I''m not sure if programs only download your photo if they're going to offer you an interview.

Does this explain why all of our residents (male and female) are hotties?

From what I've gathered from eras website is that the picture cannot be viewed until after interviews are complete and the program is trying to establish its rank order list. I hope that's true as I am not a knock-em-dead beauty (actually I'm an older student.... not that that is bad or anything, but who wants to hire a gray haired old lady? 😉 ).

Actually, at a number of my interviews, I saw our pictures already printed out. This helps them during our interview day so they do not get us mixed up. And a program that I was rejected from did DL my picture, so I don't even know if this is a rule.

I've seen programs have had them printed out ahead of time, but I've also had programs take a picture of me at the interview itself. No idea about whether if it was downloaded it means they can open the picture file irrespective of interview status.

I don't think someone who are running a residency selection can be so shallow...

Many board examinations require the candidate to send them a photo and they match that against the ID presented by the exam taker...

I think the picture on ERAS is more purpose to identify the candidate and not to be used in pre-selection...

It may sound little ridiculous but pictures are not would not get you an interview regardless of your looks or race or gender...

I would look at the credentials first like board scores...letters.....and your statement...

Now, it is totally different story if you numbers are weak and your letters are very generic and your activities make you look like an ordinary candidate....

Well, who do you think they are going to call into an interview if everything on paper is similar? Heidi Klum or Janet Reno???
