Can schools see our usernames and passwords on secondaries?

For schools that let us choose our own username and password to log into their secondary applications, can they see our chosen username and pw?

I'm assuming that our usernames should be visible, but our passwords should be encrypted and hidden. Am I correct?

E-mails can be seen. Please, refrain yourself from choosing the usual [email protected]
